"Serving the International Forest Industry "
12,000 Hectare Area
Forest Engineering Inc. is working with the Vavenby forestry staff in the implementation of the Working Tool in the field. The project is in various stages from the initial field implementation to actual harvesting of some areas.  Much of the project area can be seen from the highway so the engineering layout is designed to allow partial cuts and small group selection techniques to be used when appropriate.  A variety of harvesting systems are being utilized from conventional ground skidding systems on the gentle slopes to helicopters on the steep inaccessible areas.  Small skyline cable harvesting systems utilizing motorized slackpulling carriages are being introduced as a method to reduce impacts to soil and water resources.  Some of the longer yarding requires the use of intermediate supports to maintain deflection and production.  Intermediate supports provide lift for the cable and logs so fewer roads need to be built.  Forest Engineering Inc. has trained several local logging contractors and the Vavenby forestry staff in their use.  The first intermediate support for the Vavenby division was in the summer of 1996.  It was a very special moment for this hard working and dedicated crew.
