Cable System Used in Fish Ladder Project

Triad Mechanical
Oregon City, Oregon

FEI completed an interesting project to help fisheries at Willamette Falls in Oregon City/West Linn, Oregon. FEI was contracted to develop a method for accessing the fish ladder complex using a cable system. TRIAD MECHANICAL was demolishing the old fish ladder facilities and installing new sluice gates. Power lines above and fast water and falls below restricted access by helicopter or barge.

SMITH, MONROE & GRAY, consulting engineers, asked FEI to design and engineer the cable system to assist TRIAD MECHANICAL. A Koller K-501 yarder and SKA 2.5 carriage were utilized to fully suspend tools and materials over the falls and under the power lines. A steel tailspar helped with clearance and deflection. The cable system was anchored into various concrete structures.
